Description: They say survival of the fittest applies to the animal world. That saying couldn't be truer in the shifter world. After centuries of war and infighting, most of the weaker species have been murdered to the point of extinction. So when Wolf shifter Nico stumbles across a Rabbit shifter, he is both shocked and intrigued. That is, until the Rabbit manages to escape and disappear. Then Nico finds himself angry when his skills as a soldier are called into question. The only reason why Alger has survived so long is because of his ability to hide away from all things shifter and to blend in the human population. He ruins all that when, in a moment of weakness, he exposes himself to a Wolf of all things. Even though Alger knows he should run as far away as he can, he finds himself drawn to Nico. Which is the worst mistake Alger can make. Not only does he have himself to protect, but also his small group of shifters, who--like Alger--are the last of their kind. When Alger finds himself hunted by the dreaded Snake shifters, he knows his only hope is Nico. But can the pair put aside their inner animal instincts long enough to work together? Or will Nico eat Alger alive in more ways than one?

Feigning a bravery that Alger was nowhere near really feeling, he shot Nico a murderous glare. Or at least he hoped it was murderous. The last time he'd tried to use it on Caley, one of his roommates, the Dove shifter had told Alger that it only made him look constipated.
"Get the hell out of my way," Alger snapped.
Nico gave a grin so evil that it was downright sexy. "I would think a Rabbit like you would be right at home here."
Panic shot through Alger, and it took everything he had to keep the whole all-is-cool act going. It was hard, though, especially since he'd begun to tremble and sweat.
"Your Wolf nose must be on the fritz. I'm a feline."
It seemed as good as any other lie, since a major feline coalition resided nearby.
Nico crossed his arms, but made no move to stand to the side. "What kind of feline are you then?"
Oh shit! He would have to go and want to get all specific and all. Alger let out a low growl of aggravation. "I'm a Lion."
The corners of Nico's lips quirked. "Really?"
"Yeah, an all black one. Some even call me the ninja of Lions," Alger elaborated.
"If that's true, then how come we never heard of your specific breed before?"
"Duh! We're ninjas, so we live in the shadows. Nobody knows about us," Alger replied, proud of how quickly he'd come up with that cover story.
Nico leaned in until his lips were a mere breath away from Alger's ear. Alger's brain was screaming for him to run, yet his legs refused to obey. Strangely enough, so did his cock. It began to strain against his fly. He knew it was suicidal to want to get up close and frisky with a Wolf, but there was something about Nico that made Alger want to jump on and take a ride.
"I'm going to let you in on a little secret," Nico said, his breath fanning against Alger's skin.
Repressing a shiver of desire, Alger asked, "What's that?"
"The whole black lion thing was just an internet hoax."
Fuck it all and its mother, too. How was it that Alger hadn't known that? Now he was more than cooked. He was carved and ready for the serving platter. "It is?"
"Yes, but don't feel too bad, I already knew you were lying through your teeth. One sniff told me what you were."
Alger gave out a laugh that sounded brittle even to his own ears. "How can you possibly tell that? We're surrounded by so many animals that any shifter would be confused."
"You still were able to peg me as a Wolf."
Damn it! Why couldn't Nico be one of the guys who was hot, yet dumb. Nooooo, he had to have some brains, too.
Giving an indifferent sigh, Alger motioned to Nico's worn jeans and faded t-shirt. "Please, only a Wolf would go out in public dressed like that."
Nico glanced down at his attire. "What's wrong with what I'm wearing?"
"Besides the fact that it makes you look like a straight farmboy on his way to the Monster Truck rally, not much."
Letting out a low growl, Nico moved his lips in closer again. "You're a Rabbit. Admit it."
Alger laughed. "Are you losing it? Everybody knows that Rabbit Shifters died out years ago. Ever since the Ravens decided that they liked rabbit stew, so long as the meat was rotten and the kills were a few days old."
