"I don't need an ER, just some rest." And more treatment from those magic fingers, along with some of Mom's special serum. For a moment she let her mind slowly wander over the possibility of stretching out somewhere private with him.
"You picked me for a reason, so why not relax and trust me to get you out of here without a hassle from the twins?"
Oh, he thought he had it all figured out, but he only had a small clue as to what was going on. "No, I picked Big John. You were plan B, my backup when Big John got too distracted to be useful."
"What?" His feet stilled and his whole body tensed. "You thought he could handle those punks better than me?"
Raven noted his outraged expression. She let out a disgusted sigh. "I wasn't looking for somebody to rescue me." She drew in another breath while thinking of the best way to explain. "I was only trying to avoid a confrontation with them."
"I'm not just brawn; I've got brains, too. We can play this any way you want." He moved his hips forward to brush against hers with just enough pressure to let her know he was talking about more than the 'punks.'
He trapped her with his shimmering dark gaze, and Raven forgot to breathe for a moment. She allowed herself to contemplate a few of the possibilities. For a moment, she was just a woman in the arms of an attractive man, instead of a hunted witness in possession of evidence that could stop a band of killers.
He dipped his head toward hers and her lips parted in eager anticipation of feeling his mouth on hers.
