Chapter One

Elizabeth Lewis stood there staring at her reflection in the mirror not recognizing the person staring back at her. Mark had left her face black and blue again last night. How long was she going to let him treat her like that? She kept telling herself that he was drunk and didn't mean to hurt her, but she knew deep inside that if she didn't get away the next time she might be dead. What was she going to do? He would never let her leave, and if he did where would she go? She knew that she only had one chance to get away. Next week he would be gone for his two week hunting trip that he took every year. She had to find a way to leave while he was gone.

Lizzy went to the computer to try to find a new life for herself. She had plenty of money saved to get away. Her grandmother had left her some money when she died. It wasn't enough to live on forever but it was enough to start a new life. She had never told Mark about the money. It went straight into a savings account in her name only. After hours of looking on the Internet she finally found it. A small diner with a gift shop in the front located in Miami, Florida. It would be perfect. She called the reality and bought it right then over the phone. Now all she had to do was make it through one more week and then she would be free.

The week went by with no problems, and it was almost time for Mark to leave. She made sure to get everything packed for his trip. She didn't want to fight before he left. Mark came into the living room where she was standing.

"I better not find out that you have been running around town while I'm gone. I have some friends keeping their eye on you." Mark told her with his hateful tone.

"I won't do anything. I will stay here and wait for you to call me." Lizzy said, hoping not to anger him.

Mark with an angry tone said, "What is that supposed to mean?"
