Chapter One
Where am I, she asked herself. Jayde was standing in the middle of the street barefoot, wearing a nightgown, and blood running down her neck. She kept walking, oblivious to the lights flashing around her.
"Ma'am, are you okay? Ma'am, please come with me."
"What's going on?" she asked faintly.
"Ma'am, I'm Officer Stevens. Please come with me. Let me take you to the hospital. You are bleeding," he informed Jayde gently.
She looked around and asked in a clearer voice, "Where am I?"
"You're on Spruce Street in East Haven. Ma'am, where do you live?"
"Um ... I live at 221 N. Common Street."
"Are you sure that's your address?" Officer Stevens asked with a slight frown.
"Of course," she said almost indignantly. "My name is Jayde Jensen and I live at 221 N. Common Street."
"Ms. Jensen, do you have any idea how you got here? You are at least ten miles from home and you are hardly dressed to be out in the middle of the night."
"No I don't have any idea. What happened to me?" Jayde asked almost panicking. She looked around but none of her surroundings looked familiar to her.
"It appears maybe you were sleepwalking, and based on the blood on your neck and dirt on your nightgown, you fell. I'm going to take you to the hospital and then I will give you a ride back to your place."
"Thank you," she said politely. Maybe she really did sleepwalk. The hospital sounded like a good idea to her. She was worried about the blood on her neck. Officer Stevens helped her into the car and drove her straight to the hospital. He asked very few questions during the short drive. When they arrived at the emergency entrance, Officer Stevens walked her into the emergency room.
A casualty nurse came running over, "What happened to her officer," she asked casting a professional eye over her.
"I don't know. I actually found her walking down the middle of Spruce Street barefoot, bleeding, and disoriented. She doesn't have any identification but she does know her name and address."
"Okay, thank you officer. We're going to take her inside and get her cleaned up. Would you mind going to the admission's office and fill out some forms?"
"No problem." Officer Stevens left with a promise to be right back. He had more questions to ask Ms. Jensen.
Once inside trauma room three, the nurse took charge of Jayde, "Let's get you out of those blood soaked clothes and figure out what's going on." The nurse started sponging the dirt off of Jayde gently. She noticed the blood and said, "Whoo look at this cut on your neck. Girl you must have fallen on something sharp, but don't worry we'll get you fixed up and you will be on your way home in no time. The doctor will be in shortly, just lay back and get some rest." The nurse finished helping Jayde in the gown and took some vitals quickly and efficiently.
"Thank you," Jayde said with a tired smile already closing her eyes and falling into a comfortable snooze.
