After getting in his car, Kelly didn't start the engine right away. Instead, he turned toward her in the shadows of the dusky evening. "You look beautiful," he stated in a husky tone, his gaze traveling from her face and passing over her figure.

She heard herself speaking, but she couldn't stop the words flowing. Why had she admitted that to him, she wondered curiously. Lately, she'd been saying things so out-of-character, only to feel embarrassed afterward. But this was the way she felt, so why deny this to Kelly.

"That's what I like to hear," he admitted unevenly, his voice giving her clues to how deep his emotions ran.

He drove slowly away from her apartment. While he kept his attention on the traffic, this gave Teri time to try to settle her clamoring heart and feel her pulse begin to return too normal.
