Chapter One

Denny grabbed a basket as he and Cain went into the grocery store. Man, he couldn't remember the last time they'd shopped together. Lately, it seemed that he'd either been gone or Cain had been too busy. Once the man's comic book career took off--it had skyrocketed. Today, though, they were both home and had slept in. They had the whole day ahead of them with only this one errand to complete. He had plans for after.

He turned to Cain, smiled. That sweet face had been shaved this morning, but he knew Cain's clothes hid a multitude of hairs he was just itching to get rid of. "What's first on the list, darlin'?"

"Pears, apples and bananas." The list was carefully printed out in Cain's delicate hand.

"Fruits for the fruits it is," he murmured.

Cain chuckled, heading down the aisle. "We need tomatoes and celery."

He watched Cain's ass as the man moved. His heart wasn't really in the shopping. "Tomatoes are a fruit, too, you know."

"Tomatoes do not count as fruity."

"No? Are you sure? I know celery isn't, although it is an interesting shape--has potential."

Cain actually reached back, swatted him. "Be good."

Denny laughed, grabbing a bunch of ripe bananas from the pile. He dangled them from his fingers and waggled his eyebrows at Cain. Cain's laugh rang out, surprising and loud, drawing attention.

He was caught, captivated, staring at his darlin'. Maybe doing the groceries was far more fun than he'd given it credit for.

"What? Is everything okay?"

"Yes, darlin', it is." He smiled and continued on, grabbing a little plastic bag and filling it with pears.

Cain gathered this and that--carrots, plums, a cold bottle of juice.

"You're buying things not on the list." It wasn't really an accusation.

"I like plums." Oh, someone was beginning to get touchy.

"I know. I was teasing, darlin'." He stroked his hand along Cain's back. "Let's go to the candy section when we're done with the rest."

Cain shuddered, eyes dark and wide and warm as his lover looked at him.

"If we hurry, we'll have time to take care of your pubes when we get home." Hell, they'd have the time even if they didn't hurry, but suddenly, he didn't want to wait.

"Denny. I..." Cain stepped closer to him.

"What else is on the list, darlin'? Quickly, please." Before he did something they both regretted in the condiment aisle.

"Steaks. Cereal. Milk. Uh..." Cain moaned. "Lube."

"I think we'd better buy double. And more razors, shaving cream and sensitive skin lotion." He didn't care if it was on the list or not, it was worth saying just to watch Cain's reaction.

The buggy jittered across the floor a little. "M ... more?"
