At last, the tension eased out of his body now that he was nearly home. Logan let a smile pass over his lips and felt himself relax, knowing that nothing could go wrong now that he was so close to home. Turning to look over his shoulder, he saw the five hundred head of cattle moving easily through town.
His brow furrowed when he noticed Fisher waving frantically and pointing to something up ahead. Swinging his head around, he let out a long curse when he saw a woman in soft pink and lace gown attacking one of his cows.
"Damn it to bloody hell what was the foolish woman thinking." His hands tightening on the reins and leaning low, he spurred his horse forward and hoped he would be in time to save the woman from being badly injured or killed.
Delany stepped on to the street in a hurry to get home, it was only when she saw the cow run past her that she looked around and noticed the street full of the silly beasts. "What imbecile lets their cattle run through town?" She muttered and whacked one of the beasts to get it out of the way and when it did not move, she did it again and again.
He reached the woman just as she hit another one of the long horns, Logan leaned low over his horse, reaching out his arm he grasped the foolish woman around the waist and swung her up onto his lap just as the long horn turned to gouge her with his horns. The animal missed within inches, but ripped her dress.
Completely taken by surprise, Delany let out a cry when she was lifted up and swung up on to a horse. She turned her head to stare at the person who had bodily snatched her of the street.
At first, she was completely taken by surprise. She could only stare into the depths of a pair of dark blue eyes, for just a moment they held her captive but then when he snatched her parasol out of her hand and she understood his words she puffed up in anger.
Skillfully fighting to keep clear of the cattle's horns as they rode wildly through town, Logan reached for the parasol and tossed it on the ground. "Keep the hell still woman and pray we can get free of the cows without being gouged." He growled at her as his arm tightened around her holding her pressed against him.
Furious, her back ramrod straight, Delany silently fumed, never before had she been held so tightly against a man before and when she felt his hand wrap around her breast, the air hissed out of her and tried to pry the hand from her breast. "How dare you snatch me off the street and manhandle me. I demand you stop this horse at once and let me down." She lifted her head and glared at him.
Totally flabbergasted, Logan turned to look at the woman and for a few moments his mind went completely to mush when he saw just how beautiful she was. Then the thundering hooves bought him back to reason.
