"I'm glad you haven't forgotten me. That would have been a major blow to my ego."
"Was there something else you wanted?" Though she asked, she thought she knew the answer. She bet his ego wasn't the only thing he had blown on a regular basis.
"Just you."
The deep gravely sound of Blade's voice reverberated through her. "Me?" Oh, this night was getting better and better.
Blade didn't answer, but his intense, wolf-like gaze continued to hold her. "There's something going on here, isn't there?" she asked. "Something besides a little chit-chat with the bartender."
Blade grinned and some of the tension in her eased. Again, that almost-imperceptible nod.
Tina poured another shot of whiskey into his glass and cashed out his tab. "Wait 'til I close up, then we can talk."
Blade gave a nod and sipped the Jack Daniels.
"Tina? Want me to get rid of this guy?" the bouncer asked and nodded toward the only man left in the place.
"I got this one, thanks." Tina counted the till and stowed it in the safe in her office. "I'll see you tomorrow, Bull."
"You sure? I think I can take him." Bull puffed up his chest and clenched his hands into fists.
Tina smiled. He was always trying to protect her, like he was her big brother or something. "It's okay. I have some ... business with him." If that's what you wanted to call it.
Bull pinned a glare on Blade before shutting the door behind him.
Her nerves were shot at being alone with Blade for the first time, her mouth went dry and any sensible thought evaporated from her head.
"Don't be afraid of me," Blade said and rose to his full height as she came around the bar with her own drink in her hand. "I won't hurt you."
"I know. I don't know how I know that, but I do."
