Foreword
"The Golden Goblet" Newsletter and this Book

In July 2005, I started a free monthly newsletter entitled The Golden Goblet through Yahoo! Groups and advertised for subscribers. I then invited an author or other expert to write an article for every edition of my newsletter. Lea Schizas, author and owner/co-owner of two websites listed among the "Writer's Digest 101 Best Websites for Writers", wrote the first article for my newsletter, entitled Analysis of a Goal Plan, for the August 2005 edition. Each and every month, the articles were fantastic. Eventually, several people from Hollywood agreed to write an article. Before the first year came to a close, Deron Douglas, publisher at Double Dragon Publishing, agreed to publish a book that included articles from the first year of The Golden Goblet! You are now reading that book, a collection of articles from the first year plus extra articles written specifically for this book by some of the authors and Hollywood experts.

This book begins with an article written for the August 2006 edition of my newsletter. It addresses many important questions asked by writers. Literary Legalities: Copyright And Other Protections For Aspiring Writers was written by husband and wife, Lincoln D. Bandlow and Natalie C. Bandlow. Natalie C. Bandlow is the author of Parent To Child: The Journal and Parent To Child: The Guide: www.parenttochild.com . Lincoln D. Bandlow is an attorney specializing in intellectual property law in Century City and is the out-going President of the Los Angeles Copyright Society. He's an attorney for the law firm of Fox Spillane Shaeffer LLP--www.foxspillane.com--and has represented a large number of high profile clients in the movie, television, music, and publishing industries. Authors have many questions about copyright issues, and I find the legal advice provided in this article extremely illuminating and helpful.

The book ends with a fascinating article by Darrell Bain, entitled How to Become a World Famous Best Selling Author, Work Seven Days a Week and Still Earn Less Than a Migrant Day Laborer. Although last in the book, this article is definitely not least. It's simply a perfect note on which to end the book, as it's filled with insight into both the possibilities and struggles inherent in the writing world. In 2005, Darrell Bain was named "Fictionwise eBook Author of the Year" for most books sold and highest ratings by readers at Fictionwise.com.

Between the first and last articles in this book is a treasure trove of valuable information for both writers and people hoping to establish an acting career. The following articles were written by Hollywood experts specifically for aspiring actors and actresses: an Inspiring and Funny Story about Jo Kelly's Life in Hollywood by Jo Kelly, Casting Children as Extras/Background Actors by Jo Kelly, Oh, Those Managers and Agents ... Can't Live With Them, Can't Live Without Them ... by Michael J. Wallach, and Be Not Just A Smart Actor, But an Actor With Smarts by Michael J. Wallach. On the page before each of their articles, you will find Bios for Jo Kelly and Michael J. Wallach. Their backgrounds are very impressive.

I hope you enjoy this book. It's well worth your time to read each and every article. It was a real joy for me to read every article and to assemble them into a book. I feel deeply honored.
