SWEETS [CHEWS]BBBATS Gilliam Candy Company Inc., Paducah, KY 42002-1060 USA Description: Artificial Banana Taffy This confection was a surprise find so we bought a few just to see if they were anything like they used to be. Unfortunately, they were neither here nor there. The packaging hasn't changed at all, still a flimsy wax paper wrapped around a rectangular wad of semi-soft taffy. The wax wrapping did very little to keep this confection fresh, consequently, we were not surprised to find the chewy pop was a little stale. Due to this, the consistency was a little tough. Once the warmth of our mouths got at it, the stuff softened up a bit but the flavour didn't even come close to the original creamy, chewy goodness they used to put on that schteek! Overall, this confection is but a dismal shadow of its former self. We don't like lame-o wanna-bes so this is one old-time Allhallows eve treat we won't be buying again. 2/5--1 Schteek! BBBATS Gilliam Candy Company Inc., Paducah, KY 42002-1060 USA Description: Artificial Chocolate Taffy See above for the rating because we can't be bothered to repeat the same lame-o review. See? We think of you, our faithful readers. We certainly don't want to you waste the extra paper or your valuable time reading filler when what needs to be said has already been said. Especially when we're talking about garbage! Speaking of garbage, we move on to the mother of all loads. See below. 2/5--1 Schteek! BBBATS Gilliam Candy Company Inc., Paducah, KY 42002-1060 USA Description: Molasses and Peanut Butter Now this was clearly the worst of the three pops and, sadly, the one least worth mentioning. The clue is in the word 'mol-asses' Now, mind you, if you want to torture someone, offering this confection to them would be the way to do it. In the Supreme Court of Candy Connoisseurs, this pop would be considered assault with a deadly confection! Simply put, this pop is offensive. Two tongues down! -0/5 (Nothing is impossible in our world!) Bonkers! Candy Imported by Triple-C Inc, Hamilton ON, Canada, L8E 5B1 Description: Strawberry, Lemon, Orange For starters, the packaging needs improvement since the el cheap-o waxed paper stuck to the precious chew. The flavour, although a tad sugary was good and long-lasting. Consistency-wize, this confection is a tad too mushy and tends to dissolve into a coating which adheres to your teeth. Another weird point: it makes us feel like we need a dentist, and one CANNOT have a dentist moment when indulging in the sa-weet stuff. Gulp, that's a big--3. Ouch! Pity, 'cuz it's such a phenomenal chew! And we still remember those old, corny commercials with the huge fruit that crushed people! 2/5--3 Dentist Moment DID YOU KNOW ... Approximately 65% of candy produced each year will be eaten by Americans 18 and over. Charleston Chew Manufactured by Cambridge Brands Inc., a subsidiary of Tootsie Roll Industries, Inc., Chicago, Illinois, 60629. Made in USA Description: Long On Fun Strawberry Chew WOW, does this chew ROCK!! The foot long red wrapper is unmistakable so if your eyes ever set on one be glad you spotted it, grab it and go! Pop it in the freezer for about an hour, peel open and enjoy! The chew can be enjoyed warm as well but we just love the way the nougat cracks when it's hard. The chocolate covering and strawberry nougat made for a fantastic combo, the creamy berry flavour being reminiscent to that of Nestle Quick. To think we thought this was going to be like a Tootsie Roll ... for shame. We're glad we were wrong! 2 chewy Charlstongues up!! 5/5 Charleston Chew Manufactured by Cambridge Brands Inc., a subsidiary of Tootsie Roll Industries, Inc., Chicago, Illinois, 60629. Made in USA Description: Long On Fun Vanilla Chew The 12" chew looked like a jumbo Tootsie Roll and had a great easy-tear package that was chock full of fun. Instead of wasting space with stupid jokes or ugly mascots these guys fill their unused space with brain teasers! Stuff that makes ya think! Cool! The block style chew was a mallow--nougat cross with creamy vanilla flavour and dipped in chocolate. This treat can be eaten either at room temperature or frozen, as suggested on the package. We taste tested both ways to see if we had a preference. Warm, the consistency was chewy, as expected, but freeze the bar for about an hour and you've got a completely different treat! The nougat hardens and snaps like sponge toffee. Once in your mouth it slowly reverts to a soft chew which is just plain melt-in-your-mouth good. 2 chilly Charlestongues up!! 5/5
