Leaning against the wall, Dana eased the ache of her injured ankle. "Is that one of those bags that seals in the smell?"

"Aye." Reya cast the traders a bland look. "You won't have to worry about the carcass stinking up your ship."

"What a relief," Maverk returned just as blandly, although inside he was anything but. He wanted to shake her because he knew she was deliberately trying to sicken him.

"The maggots won't fall onto the floor."

Forget about shaking her, now he wanted to smack her. "I get the picture."

"Do you?" Straightening up, she regarded him steadily. "Do you really, pretty boy? Have you ever seen a dead body?"

"Aye."

"After a couple of days?"

"Aye."

"After it has been cooking in the hot sun and wild animals have been feasting upon it?"

His gorge rose but he refused to allow her the satisfaction of knowing it. "Aye."

Dubiously, she eyed him. "Maggots and insects and all?"

Nay. The corpse he'd seen had been frozen in ice.
