Katie hurried down the hallway to the conference room for the weekly team meeting. She hated being late, and she smiled and nodded greetings to the group as she sat down and brushed a strand of blonde hair away from her cherubic face.

Eddie Duncan, the wild-haired chief programmer spoke up. "Brad asked me to go ahead and hold the meeting today since he's out of town."

Katie smiled at the mention Brad Winslow, the handsome IT manager, because they had been dating for a month and she was anxious for his return.

Angela Black interrupted Eddie. "Before you start, I have some bad news."

Everyone stared at her. Angela was the manager of the marketing department and no one liked her. She oozed false friendship, had a habit of taking credit for everyone else's work, and had risen through the ranks of the sales force using questionable sales tactics. Being catty, manipulative, and a drama queen were her trademarks.

Angela smiled broadly and looked around the conference table, then directly at Katie. "We've had some complaints from the customers doing the beta test. They say the new graphic design for the software sucks."

Katie cringed. She was the graphics designer for the software and had worked hard with the programmers doing the code to create the new look. "I don't understand."

"Of course you don't, dear."

"What's wrong with it?"

Angela frowned at Katie. "It's like every design you do. It's too round."

"What?"

"Everything on the screen is round. The corners are round, the buttons are round, everything on the screen is big ... , and fat ... , and round."

No one in the room missed the allusion to Katie's weight, least of all, Katie, because Katie was chubby. And although she wasn't obese, she was definitely a Rubenesque girl with curves.

A deep crimson flush spread up Katie's neck and into her face. "But..."

Angela interrupted. "It will have to be re-done."

Eddie sputtered. "That's ridiculous. We all agreed on the design weeks ago."

"I never agreed." She leaned across the table toward Eddie. "It will have to be completely re-done."

Eddie tapped a file folder in front of him. "We can't do a new design and programming in time for the release date."

Angela stood up. "We'll see about that." She huffed out of the conference room, leaving the others to simply stare.

Katie sat in her cubicle and sniffled, then blew her nose. "Bitch," she said out loud.

"Yep, I am. What's the matter?"

Katie looked up to see her gay friend, Bibi standing at the entrance to her cube. "Not you. Angela."

"Hah." Bibi grinned and plopped down in a chair and crossed her legs like a man. "What's she done now?"

Katie told her about the meeting.

Bibi shook her head. "Ever since that night I threw the beer on her, she's had it in for both of us."

Katie chuckled at the memory. Angela hadn't been able to get Bibi fired, but she had managed to get her placed on administrative probation. "You better be careful. Jobs are hard to find."

Bibi smirked. "Uh, huh. Yeah. When does Brad get back?"

Katie grinned. "Late this afternoon. He said he'd come over for dinner tonight."

"Oooh. Naughty girl."

Katie giggled.

"Well, you'll be pleased to know that you and Brad are now officially, an item."

"What?"

"I heard two of the sales reps talking in the break room. One of them said she'd get naked and dance down the hall, if he'd look at her the way he looks at you."

Katie blushed. "Oh, get out!" Always self-conscious and insecure about her ample curves, she couldn't believe anyone would be jealous over her. But Brad was beautiful, though, and she still had trouble believing his interest in her was more than sex. She sighed and swatted at her insecurity like it was a buzzing mosquito. "I'm sure she was exaggerating."
