Chapter One

It had been ten years since Rachel died and Kyle raised his children with the help of Sue and Tom. Thomas was fourteen and Rachel, who was named after her mother, was ten. Kyle didn't know where the years had gone. His children had grown up before his eyes. They both looked so much like Rachel that it hurt. He stayed true to his word by telling them stories about their mother and showing them pictures.

Kyle was in the kitchen fixing the kids some lunch when Sue walked in. "Hi, mom." he said with a smile.

Sue smiled as she walked over to give him a kiss on the cheek. "Kyle. Honey. Don't say no right away. Hear me out."

"Oh no. This can't be good." He smiled.

"My friend's daughter is in town this weekend and....

"No." Kyle cut her off as she was speaking.

"Just listen. Please. She just needs somebody to show her around town for the evening. She's thinking about moving here and she wants to see the town first. She's a doctor and wants to move her practice here in town. She has a list of empty offices that she wants to check out. I wouldn't ask, but her mother broke her hip last week and can't drive her around and I just don't have time. I have to sew a costume for Rachel. She's in that play at school remember?" Sue pleaded her case rather well. She had been trying to get Kyle to date again. He had been alone for ten years and she thought that it would be good for him to find a new love. Sue missed Rachel every day, but Rachel wasn't coming back and it was time for Kyle to move on. He had given up enough of his life already.

Kyle gave Sue one of those looks that said he didn't want to do it but instead said. "Oh alright. Give me her name and address and I will take her around town."

Sue grinned from ear to ear. "Don't worry about it. It's all taken care of. She will be here at seven tonight."

Kyle just looked at Sue. "What would you have done if I said no?"
