It wasn't the first arrow he'd lost -- hell, everyone had misfires -- but every other time, the lost arrow had gone somewhere harmless, like into a tree, or a rock, or once, the ocean, causing a legendary but perfectly legal romance between a coral branch and a jellyfish. But this time the lost arrow was far more serious; even lying locked in Centurion's safe, it was only a matter of time before Sara, or anyone else who had the safe's combination, returned. One little bobble, one small prick, and bam! They'd fall in love with Tony Aster.
Ross rubbed his eyes. His only hope was to try to get the arrow back the next day as soon as the restaurant opened, either by stealth or if necessary, by pretending to be a genuine customer and claiming it. Going back to HQ wasn't an option he wanted to consider. It would salvage the arrow situation, but it wouldn't save him from a lifetime or two of shoveling cattle-dung.
Feeling dejected, Ross wandered around the restaurant until he found a private dining room featuring an ornate claw-footed couch along one wall. He appropriated the tablecloth for a blanket and curled up on the plush cushions, trying to focus on Mercury's smart pink-and-white winged chariot rather than a thousand huge, horned, angry bulls. Immortal bulls, full of immortal dung.
But when Ross' eyes closed, his errant brain produced another picture entirely.
Tony Aster was beautiful. There was no other word for it. Ross had never credited himself with much of a memory for faces, but something about Tony's had etched itself indelibly in his mind. Aquiline nose, high, chiseled cheekbones, strong jaw. Curved mouth, with lips that Ross would almost have called thin, if he hadn't been so desperate to taste them.
The long lithe body in the smart, preppy clothes... Ross thought of the broad shoulders and neat, firm arm muscles. A slim waist and narrow hips above the round, perfect ass.
Ross groaned softly, cock hardening in his shorts. He could see that perfect body as clearly as if Tony were in front of him, stripped naked, those curved lips smiling shyly in invitation.
Ross couldn't hold out any longer. With a practiced wriggle, he slipped out of his shorts and grasped his swollen length, hissing in anticipation.
Tony would be gold all over, tanned, kissed by the sun. Lit from within. He'd taste as good as he looked -- maybe better -- and Ross ached to hold him, to feel him. To know him.
