Battling Glass
by D. J. Manly

Category: Erotica/Gay-Lesbian Erotica/Dark Fantasy
Description: Emilien has hidden himself away for endless years. Half-human and half-vampire, he has continually struggled with his own nature. His only contact is with a vampire named Carmen, who makes one critical error and brings the full force of vampire wrath down on Carmen, exposing Emilien and forcing him out of hiding.

Saddled with a young mortal woman he can't bring himself to kill, he flees with her to her brother's house. Carl represents everything that Emilien yearns for, to live life like a normal mortal. As a result, he stays longer than he intends, until the reality of what he is comes crashing down around him.

Emilien has been in love before--during the French Revolution, with a stable boy named Francois--but his vampire father shattered their love when he turned Francois into a vampire. It's not the only thing his father, Alexander, has destroyed. Unable to accept Emilien's humanity, Alexander has sought only to kill him, and even in the twenty-first century, his desire to vanquish his only son is as strong as ever. Emilien quickly realizes he can never have a future with Carl, or even come to terms with the love he still bears for Francois, until he and Alexander settle matters once and for all.

Now, the past comes hurtling into the present when vampires take sides and the real battle between father and son commences...

NOTE: Don't miss the sequel, Still Battling Glass.

"You want me to spell it out? Okay. Are you curious about me sexually and otherwise?"

"Don't be ridiculous! I don't need toE " He trailed off.

"Why don't you kiss me and see what kind of reaction you get?" Emilien invited, moving closer.

Carl was just about to step out of the kitchen. For a moment, he thought he had misunderstood him. He froze, his breathing deepening, and he felt his cock stir.

"Unless," Emilien said, "you're afraid."

He stood still, glued to the spot.

Emilien spoke again. "You are afraid."

"Afraid?" he managed. He turned, looked at him. "What would I be afraid of, Emilien?"

"Yourself. Maybe you're afraid I can move you in a way Steven can't. Maybe you're afraid to find out"--Emilien paused, his voice strained suddenly with emotion--"afraid to find out just how desperately I want you right now."

Carl's legs began to shake. He put one hand on the doorframe for support. He ran his gaze over Emilien and reached out as if to touch him. He was filled with a deep physical craving for him but he had no words for it. How did one put words to such intense feelings of desire? Emilien was practically a stranger and yet, at this moment, Carl felt as if he could completely abandon himself to himE giving him everything.

Emilien took a deep breath. "Well, at least Tash will have company tonight on the rejection list." He walked to the back door and opened it, but hesitated for a second, waiting for Carl to say something.

Carl was completely lost for words. When the silence grew so profound that it began to hurt, Emilien walked outside into the night.
