Chapter One

Jaya Radford stared at the computer screen, and once more looked at the price, $30,000. She tapped the keys on the keyboard with her fingernails, and sighed as she clicked the buy button. It wasn't as if she didn't have the money, but still even to her $30,000 was a chunk out of her savings, especially if that said alien-man-machine decided to reject her.

The wind howled, and little pellets of ice hit her windows, distracting her for a minute. Jaya didn't know why, but she always felt as if someone was watching her. She rubbed her arms. "One more reason why I need him," she mumbled and reached down to grab her credit card when the shutter slammed against the side of her house. She jumped and screamed at the same time, grabbing her chest.

"Okay cyber man, come protect me, please. Or should I say Mordock, or whatever your name is." With her hands trembling Jaya punched in her credit information, highlighting the speedy delivery, not caring that it would cost an extra thousand dollars to get him down from the space station and there by tomorrow. Her Valentine Cyborg needed to be here now.

For five years she had been in hiding, moving more than six times. She was tired. She had the home of her dreams, her books sales were now taking off, so she didn't have to work outside her home, and for the first time in fifteen years Jaya was happy.

"If this creep doesn't find me first," she whispered to herself, while making her way to the large bay window. She scanned the woods around her house, but saw nothing. The moon was full and lit the forest so that she could see a little further in the woods than normal.

She stared down at her scarred hands and arms. "At least I won't have to worry about Mordock cringing at sight of my scars, I hope." Jaya smiled as she remembered her conversation with the bot last night. For the last two years she had fallen asleep with the bot Bryn. Each night in her dreams he would take her into his arms and hold her, while she would tell him everything. Her personal fantasies, her nightmares, the pain of being so lonely. And after listening to each of her problems, he would kiss every inch of her body, teasing her and dominating her.

Her computer binged, indicating it was ready for her to input her information. Jaya sat down smiling, remembering their last night, where he had actually paddled her ass. She squirmed in her chair and shook her head. "Stop thinking about that now, he's gone."

Bryn had said good bye to her last night, as he had encouraged her to order the cyborg for protection, after she'd told him about her idea. Jaya read the questions, and started to check the programs she wanted installed in her cyborg. That was until she came to the list of extras, which could also be downloaded for him. Her nipples hardened at the sexual list of phrases, ones she was accustomed to using in her own books. Jaya hovered the cursor over the list, as her granny underwear became wet.

"Damn, might as well indulge in my fantasies. Who knows, it might be easier to write it once I've done it." She clicked her preferences light bdsm, spanking, anal sex, oral sex, and dominance in the bedroom. She turned to the list of defensive software, and clicked every option. Jaya didn't care if it was redundant. This man/cyborg had to be ready to protect her once he got here.

After clicking the last program, Jaya hit the finish button, and sat back waiting for the picture of her perfect cyborg, Mordock. Within five minutes Jaya stared at its picture, at his picture on her computer screen. She reached up with a finger, and traced his strong cheekbones, and full lips. They didn't show anything else. Jaya knew that some of the men had tails, some were part wolf, too. Her best friend's cyborg, now husband, was part wolf, and god. He was hot. The man on the screen sort of looked like her bot Bryn, but that couldn't be right.

To think, she had just agreed to have someone part alien and part machine live with her for the next ten years. She sighed. "Well, if he doesn't want to have sex, that's okay, as long as I'm safe."

Jaya knew he would be on the next shuttle to Ohio. By tomorrow morning, she would be protected in her home. There would be no more running.

She flipped to the story she had been writing, and tried to work on it, but realized there was no way she could concentrate. Jaya moved to her website and checked the messages. Sure enough, he had posted to her website, but that hadn't bothered her. It was what he had linked to his post that had her shaking, badly. He had a recent picture of her.

With a flick of a button, she shut down her computer and jumped up. The picture had been taken at the last writers' convention in New York, which she had attended. Where she believed she was safe.

On automatic meltdown, she ran to the front door, and made sure all six dead bolt locks were in position. Next, she checked to every window, making sure they were shut tight and locked in every room in her home.

Entering her kitchen, Jaya turned on her stove, as she checked the back door. She picked up the kettle and filled it with water for a cup of her favorite decaffeinated tea and grabbed the phone. She slumped into the kitchen chair, took a deep breath, and dialed her best friend's number.

"What's wrong Jaya? You never call this late," Tammy asked, her voice full of concern.

"He was in New York Tammy, in the same hotel." Now, even her voice was shaky, barely a whisper.

"Shit, I thought this crap was over. It's been over two years since the last time he posted anything. I can be there in an hour. I just have to wait till Ragger comes home."

She shook her head, as she grabbed the kettle, and poured the hot water into her cup. "No, I'll be okay. Plus, I did it. I placed my order tonight. He should be here by tomorrow morning."

A loud shriek pierced her eardrum, and she knew Tammy was jumping up and down. She juggled the phone too as she rubbed her ear. "You're acting as if he is coming to your home. You know, he might not want to stay, and there's no guarantee that he will turn out like yours did."

"You always do that, and I hate it." Her friend snapped. "You should wear that sexy nightgown I gave you tonight. You have no idea what time he'll arrive, so you might as well look hot, and no granny underwear. Oh, and for Pete's sakes, don't be talking to that computer tonight, you'll have the real thing soon enough. You don't need the fake crap that bot implants in your dreams. "

Jaya spit the sip of tea out of her mouth. "Shit, Tammy only you would say that, and I'm not putting on that nightgown, but...I will put on the night shirt you gave me last Christmas." She reached over and wiped down the counter. "And I couldn't talk to him anyway. He has been taken offline. Who knows, maybe he found someone and he wasn't fake."

"Fine, but not the granny undies, and damn it make sure you undo that tight ass braid you always put your hair up in. You have beautiful hair. I love the fact you have three different colors in your hair, when it takes me two hundred dollars, and three hours in the beauty parlor, to have something like that done to mine. Ragger and I will come over tomorrow night. Maybe having someone like him close by will help. Ragger has organized the other cyborgs in this area. He's even purchased a large warehouse so they could meet."

Tammy took a deep breath. "Do you have everything locked? Did you call the constable?" she asked, finally giving Jaya space to talk.

"I'll call when I hang up with you. Maybe I should cancel my party tomorrow? It won't have half the security?" Taking the last sip of her tea, Jaya put the cup in the sink, and moved to the bathroom.

"NO! You can't do that. Just wait, and see what happens tomorrow. You know this party is your coming out. Plus, Ragger will be there, he's already uploaded several defense programs knowing you might need help. He has invited a couple of the men he met to protect you. You have people coming in from all over the world, just to meet with you, and have a hot Valentine's night. I mean, who wouldn't want to go to a Valentines party with the world's best erotic writer. You can't cancel."

"We'll see, and tell Ragger thank you. He didn't have to do that. Listen, I'm going to let you go. I'm going to take a nice hot bubble bath, after I call the constable, and thank you, Tammy, for listening to me. Tell Ragger I said hello."

Dialing the number to the constable, Jaya waited for him to answer, while she stripped out of her clothes.

"Constable Davis here." The large beefy man answered the phone and she smiled.

"Hello Davis, this is Jaya. I wanted to inform you that he has contacted me again." Jaya shivered and stepped into the hot soapy water.

"When and how?" Davis order and Jaya could just picture him behind his large desk that his wife had given him for Christmas.

Jaya explained all the details, and told him she would wait for him tomorrow. Knowing he would want his computer expert to try once more, and track Byron's where abouts. She closed her eyes and dropped the phone to the floor trying to relax.

Tomorrow everything would change.
