Knock, knock, knock.
The pounding on the door caused him to jerk and he blew out an exasperated breath.
"Yeah?"
"You done?" Chase asked, and Alex couldn't help but wonder if his roommate's friend was still here.
"Be right out." Alex listened, but noticed Chase didn't leave immediately and he wondered if his friend was waiting for some specific reason. Eventually, though, Alex heard his roommate's footsteps heading away.
Alex waited another moment before he finally opened the door and glanced out into the hallway. This was ridiculous. Was he really afraid to face Chase? Shaking his head, he grabbed his cane and headed toward his bedroom. He was still recovering from the knee injury that ended his football career, and although he hated feeling like an invalid, he needed the cane to get around.
Stepping into the room, he flipped on the light and then jerked to a halt. Chase was sitting at his desk.
"Wha--"
"We need to talk," Chase said with stubborn resolve.
"Um, it's kind of late. Can't we just--"
"No, this can't wait."
Chase seemed pretty determined. And Alex knew from experience that when Chase had an idea in his head, he was like a dog with a bone. He wasn't going to let this go. Alex knew one way or another they'd be talking tonight.
"Fine. Mind if I change first?" Alex gave him a pointed look. To his surprise Chase flushed and nodded.
"Sorry. I'll be in the living room." Chase walked around Alex and left the room, shutting the door behind him.
Alex sighed and dropped the towel. Then hobbling over to his dresser drawers, he rummaged around until he found a pair of sweatpants. Taking a seat on the bed, he struggled to pull them on. He immediately noticed his cock was already beginning to stir, even though he'd just come moments ago. He cursed his bad luck.
After a bit of a wrestling match, he was finally able to remove his sweats. He found a pair of briefs to wear and then put the pants back on. The additional coverage concealed his semi-erection a little better, but he still worried what Chase might think if he saw it.
He knew he couldn't keep wasting time if he didn't want Chase to come looking for him. Sighing, he drew a sweatshirt over his head and padded barefoot out to the living room, leaning heavily on his cane. All this walking around was beginning to put a strain on his knee. Chase was pacing back and forth, but came to a halt when Alex arrived. Alex saw no sign of the dark-haired man. He didn't think the other guy would still be there, especially after Chase insisted on having a discussion. Nevertheless, he asked the question on his mind.
"Did your friend leave?"
Chase nodded and Alex was relieved. He wasn't sure why, but he had the feeling Chase had sent the other man away. Alex walked farther into the room and took a seat on the couch.
"You wanted to talk?" Alex realized he sounded confident and secure, when just the opposite was the case.
Chase nodded again, but he didn't say anything at first. Since Alex didn't want to have the conversation in the first place, he wished he could have just walked away. But they had been friends for too long for him to ignore Chase's need to talk. So he just sat and waited.
"I know you're probably shocked by what you saw," Chase finally said.
"No, not at all." Sarcasm made Alex's response sound harsher than he meant. He shook his head and tried again. "Sorry. I...yeah, I was surprised."
"I never meant for you to find out this way."
"How long have you known you were gay?"
"I'm not gay," Chase rushed to assure him.
Despite the tense situation, Alex couldn't help but be slightly amused by his friend's fierce denial. "Dude, I hate to break it to you, but when you have a guy suck your dick, you're gay."
A harsh laugh escaped Chase. "I still like women. I just like guys too."
"What's that mean?"
Chase shrugged. "I'm bisexual, I guess."
It wasn't as if he could really judge his best friend. Alex had just got off on a gay fantasy, so he couldn't help but wonder what that made him.
"So..." Alex cleared his throat. "Is this the first time you ever..." Maybe this was just a one-time thing and they could both put this behind them, but Chase was shaking his head.
"No, I've experimented a little bit before this, but tonight was the first time I ever had a guy...you know..." Chase's voice trailed away.
"Yeah." Alex knew. The images were burned into his brain and his cock stiffened once again. Damn it. He needed to stop thinking about the details and concentrate on what his friend was confiding in him. So Chase was gay. Or bisexual. Whatever.
He could accept that. Chase was his best friend and Alex wouldn't turn away from their relationship because of Chase's sexual orientation. What Alex couldn't accept was his own attraction to his friend.
"This doesn't really change anything between us, you know. I'll always be your friend," he was quick to assure Chase.
"I'm glad to hear that."
"I think we need to make a rule that requires us to agree that anything sexual stays in the bedrooms." Alex swallowed and continued, "I don't want to walk in on something like that again."
Chase nodded his head in agreement. "Yeah, sorry about that. I should have been more discreet. I just figured you'd be gone all night. Speaking of that, what happened tonight?"
Alex curled his lips in disgust. "Apparently Janet released me the same time the football team did. She thinks we need to take a break, a permanent one."
"That sucks, but you know..."
"I know, I know, you never thought she was good enough for me anyway."
"Exactly." Chase stood and headed into the kitchen. "Want a beer?"
"Yeah, sure." A beer wasn't going to fix all his problems, but Alex wasn't averse to pretending, at least for a little while longer.
