Foreword
It was a bright night, filled with moonlight, more than enough to see a rabbit dart out before me and run up the mountainside toward the peak, as though it would continue up into the sky. What could it be thinking?
Over the next few weeks, I wondered about other animals--the gorilla watching visitors at a zoo, the finch making a nest in the eaves of a house, a dog barking at its owner. And each time I wondered about another animal, another poem appeared in my notebook.
Now those poems are here, and I hope you enjoy them. They are free verse poems, poems that do not rhyme or go bumpity-bumpity-bumpity. They are silly and serious, poems for you, poems for everyone, poems that are part of that fantastic country called imagination.
