Christmas At Home ~

She was one of the prettiest women he'd ever seen, though he doubted she realized it.

He wanted nothing more than to ask her out on a real date. Lunch today had only made him hunger for more. Made him want what he couldn't have.

Her husband had been a waist gunner. She'd told him the bittersweet story of how he'd enlisted in the Bomb Squad stationed in Nuthampstead, England, been a part of England's RAF.

Ryan hadn't told her yet that he was a pilot as well--or had been. He'd flown with America's 8th Army Air Force. Now he was nothing, had nothing to offer anyone. Certainly not anyone as beautiful as Allison Monroe. She deserves someone whole.

But oh, how he wanted her...

Christmas Wonderland ~

After drying her hands and placing the towel on the counter, Sam left the kitchen. The meal had been delicious despite the fact rationing made getting good ingredients difficult to find. Her heart slammed against her ribs at the sight that greeted her. Greg lay back in the recliner, his small daughter curled on his chest. With his arms loosely around her, both were sound asleep.

Sam knew her heart was at risk. This man and his tiny daughter were sin-u-ating their way into her life. I'm even thinking like Missy now!

Was she ready for this? Despite the far-reaching impact and limitations of the war on US soil, her life had been perfectly fine the way it was. She didn't need the complications of a high-profile man and his daughter.

Didn't need anyone else in her life right now.

So why did she suddenly feel that if she let these people walk out of her life she would be making the biggest mistake of her life?

The American Old West grew as people left their homes in the East. Often myths of the West, rather than the harsh realities and struggles to survive that truly existed, took firm hold in the imagination of those setting out to follow their dreams.

Forever Love~

She straightened her shoulders as she faced him. "After all, I do own this establishment now."

"Actually, ma'am, you own half the hotel. Your husband only paid the down payment."

"But Geoffrey--" she started and stopped just as quickly. She'd almost made the mistake of telling him Geoffrey was her brother and not her husband.

"Your husband sent half by a bank draft. He was supposed to pay the rest when he got here."

"Geoffrey--" her voice caught on the name--"did mention..." Her eyes widened. "Oh! Those men stole all our money when they robbed the stage."

He pushed his hat back on his head. "That's where the problem comes in, ma'am. Why I said you only own half the hotel."

"But I...who owns the other half?" She frowned.

He held her fast with his stare. "I do."

Them's Fightin' Words~

"Everyone always trips all over themselves to do exactly what you want, don't they Mrs. Major? Permits you to play a hermit out here."

Felicity swung around, soapy dish water dripping from her hands. Seeing Jake, she grabbed the counter for support, pale as if she'd seen a ghost.

She grabbed a towel from the counter to dry her hands. "How dare you come into my house like some...some...thief?"

"Used to be my house, too. I grew up here, remember?" Jake countered.

"I should call Sheriff--"

"Go ahead. Be sure to tell him you're reporting me for delivering your supplies."

"My groceries? What--"

Jake lifted the boxes as if to draw her notice to them, then dropped them down on the tabletop. "Carl was busy. I offered to save him the trip."

"I...oh...well..." Felicity couldn't seem to find the words. "You needn't have put yourself out. I could've waited for Carl to deliver them. I--"

"I know. You don't need my help. You've made that abundantly clear this past year." Jake grabbed the dish towel out of her hands and threw it toward the sink. "You don't need anyone's help. You'd rather stay out here and shrivel up and die--like Jethro."

"How dare you talk to me like that? Jethro was my--"

"Husband. I know. A saint of a man, perfect in every way. You've told me often enough since I came back."

"He..."

Jake raked his eyes over her. "Never mind. I've delivered your stuff. Now I'm leaving. You can go back to hiding from the world."

Taking long, angry strides, he stormed outside to his truck.

During a time of civil rights and turmoil, of a looming threat of war in Vietnam, of American Bandstand joining the television airwaves, simplicity and young love take center stage...

Johnny's Fortune~

"Hey, doll, wanna dance?"

Rosemary Traviata stopped skating back to the restaurant where she had another order to pick up and turned to face the owner of the voice. She groaned. Johnny Fortunato. What did he want? She skated over to his car and reached for the food tray hooked over the door.

"Are you finished with this? I'd be happy to remove it for you."

A large, masculine hand closed over hers. When her eyes shifted to his handsome face, a twinkle of mischief clearly sparkled in his brown eyes.

"You can remove it if you answer the question I just asked." A slow, sexy smile spread over his countenance as he held her hand firmly in his.

At one time in her life she would have done anything to have him talk to her. That had stopped years ago. She rolled her eyes again, only this time at herself. Who was she trying to kid? A part of her heart would always belong to this man.
