It was a mating dance as old as time itself.
Advance.
Retreat.
Banter.
Respond.
Callie felt her heart race in anticipation. She was drunk with the smell of him, the feel of him. She lowered her gaze to her hands, which were clenched tightly in her lap like a prudish spinster's.
Except she wasn't a prudish spinster. She was a woman about to be mated with the man who'd ridden into her life and stolen her heart.
"Don't play coy with me, Callie. We both know where this is leading."
"My goodness. The baby." Callie tried to rise. Rafe stopped her effortlessly, his warm naked chest a most erotic barrier.
"Didn't you already settle him for the night?"
"Yes, but..."
She could feel his breath, like scalding steam against her neck, as he nuzzled her hair out of the way. His mustache tickled her sensitive nerve endings, softly tantalizing, followed by the rasp of newly grown chin whiskers. Callie's head lolled back. Her eyelids flickered and closed of their own volition. It felt too good, what Rafe was doing. Much too good. The most incredible sensations were being sparked to life, like a series of candles being lighted one at a time, the flame passed from wick to wick until the whole was ablaze with light. With heat. That's what he was doing to her insides. Lord a'mighty. What might happen if he actually touched her? Kissed her even?
