Chippie Chipmunk was alone. He has never been all alone before. But this spring, he was six weeks old. He was old enough to leave his mother and his brothers and sisters. He was old enough to venture out into the world on his own.
Chippie never knew his father. The male eastern chipmunk does not help in raising his young. But even so, Chippie has grown into a strong and independent chipmunk, or as he is most commonly called, ground squirrel.
Chippie climbed out of his family's underground burrow and ran into the meadow. He was going to the woods to find a home of his own. But having a curious
nature, Chippie stopped and looked around. He has never been to the meadow before.
