When their eyes locked, she sunk into the gorgeous blue depths, and heat rushed through her. She shifted to ease the instant moisture in her underwear and suppressed a groan. Sweet mother of God. How could this be happening?

She darted a quick look at Lisa. Her friend's eyes grew wide. An "oh, crap" look registered on her face, and then Lisa shrugged her shoulders. Sam took a deep breath. They were in it already. May as well ride it out.

Jason introduced Jacob to the women. He politely shook Lisa's hand, and then took Sam's hand with an amused smirk spreading across his face

"Miss Marks." He tilted his head, his lips curled mockingly.

Jacob took his seat. Sam tried to assess just what he was thinking. Was he open to hearing her presentation? Or, was she screwed and there was no way he would hire someone like her? Suppressing another groan, Sam turned back to her boards.

"All right gentleman, where was I?"

With Jake's eyes on her, Sam forced herself to be professional. Who cares if the man made her insides mushy? She had a job to do, and she would not fuck this up for Lisa and herself by lusting after a man she had no business with.

About forty-five minutes later, the meeting wrapped up. Sam fought the urge to squeal excitedly for successfully landing the contract. After shaking hands, the women prepared to leave; Jacob laid his hand on Sam's arm. "Can I talk to you privately for a minute?" he asked.

Panic raced through her body. With a grimace, she looked at Lisa, silently pleading for her help. Lisa smiled at her, reassuringly. Ignoring the questioning looks from Jake's partners, she followed him out of the boardroom.

Her heels sunk into the plush teal carpet, muffling any sound. Trying to keep her eyes off of Jake's ass, Sam scanned the open offices and cringed. She couldn't wait to get in here and update the eighties motif that engulfed the entire law firm. At the end of the hall, Jake stopped and motioned for Sam to enter the room ahead of him.

Once inside Jake's office, he closed the door. He sat down on the edge of the desk and indicated a chair for Samantha to sit in.

"So, Sam, why did you take off the other night?"

That was not at all what she had expected him to say. Flustered, she gazed at him. God, the man was perfectly made. It should be illegal to be dripping that much sex appeal. She just wanted to run her fingers through his thick dark hair and bite his lip.

Focus, Sam, she said to herself, shaking her head.

"Um, well," she stammered, "I don't even know how to begin to explain the other night to you."

Jake sat back and crossed his arms over his broad chest. "Try," he said.

She took a deep breath and cleared her throat. "OK, um. That kind of party was completely new to me; I don't usually go to that sort of thing."

He laughed. "Yeah, I kind of figured that out."

Sam raised her head to meet his eyes; she didn't see judgment there, but understanding.

"Anyways, I didn't know what to expect at all. Truthfully, some of it.... Hell, most of it was really not my thing."

Jake laughed again. "Mine either. But the great thing about it is no one was judging anyone for what they were into."

Sam nodded her head. "Right, well anyways, um. I don't usually have sex with strangers, especially in the hallway," she said, heat rushing up her neck and across her face.

Jake laughed and nodded his head. "Yeah, I normally go for somewhere a bit more private, too. You may not believe me, but that was the first time I've been to one of those parties myself." He ran his hands through his hair, and he shot her an unabashed smile. "Mark's a client, and he invited all of us to his party."

Her mouth dropped open, and she stared back at him. "You were all there?"

Chagrinned, Jake nodded his head. "Afraid so. Not what you expected from a bunch of up and coming lawyers I guess."

She grinned back at him. "You could say that. I hope you won't let what happened affect whether you sign the contract with us. I guarantee it won't affect our work at all." When Jake's posture shifted, Sam pushed on. "I'm hoping we can just forget all about that night and just pretend it didn't happen."
