Brandon Masterson was surprised to find himself attracted to his sister's new roommate at the University of Wisconsin. In the last year of his residency, the last thing he needed was a woman in his life, but Jenny came as an exception to his rule.

Brandon Masterson pulled up in front of Fredrick Hall. He'd been lucky to get a dorm room here. With the close proximity to the hospital, it was perfect for him. He knew most residents preferred to get apartments off campus, but Brandon thought the extra expense was unnecessary. Being in the last year of his residency, he knew he wouldn't be spending much time in an apartment and he certainly didn't mind having a roommate.

Earlier he'd helped his sister Frannie move into this same building. She was finishing her nurses training and, like him, wanted to be close to the hospital. Her decision had been helped along because his roommate, Greg Thomas, had been dating her for the past year and a half. After they both graduated in the spring they were planning to get married and settle wherever he started his practice.

Brandon came down from the fourth floor where his room gave him a spectacular view of the lake and hurried out the door for yet another load of his belongings. With his mind elsewhere, he didn't notice the young woman coming into the building until he ran into her knocking the box she was carrying to the ground.

"I'm so sorry," Brandon said as he bent to help her retrieve the spilled contents of the box. "I wasn't watching where I was going."

"That's all right, neither was I," she replied, her voice sounding like the sweet song of a bird.

He took a moment to look at her closely. Her hair was long and hung down her back like a blue/black curtain and her skin had a delicate bronze hue telling him she either spent the summer in the sun or she had a Native American heritage. Considering when Frannie got the notice of her roommate for the year, she learned the girl's name would be Jennifer Red Hawk thus confirming a Native American heritage.

"I'm Brandon Masterson, the way it looks we're both going to be rooming here this term."

She smiled as she accepted his outstretched hand. "Jennifer Red Hawk, but my friends call me Jenny. The name of Masterson sounds familiar. You wouldn't be related to Francine Masterson, would you?"

"Only slightly, she's my younger sister. You must be her roommate. Frannie was really excited about rooming with you. She's been over the top about you being Native American. She's really into going to pow-wows and learning everything she can about the culture. Would I be too forward to ask you which tribe you're from?"

"Of course you wouldn't. I'm Chippewa from the Lac du Flambeau reservation."

She reached for the cardboard box he held in his hands, but he wouldn't give up his hold on it.

"Allow me, pretty lady. I would enjoy playing tour guide and show you to your room."

She nodded her acceptance of his offer and pulled open the door so they could both enter the lobby. Once they were in the elevator, he pushed the button for the third floor.

Once the doors opened, he guided her down the hall to the corner room she would be sharing with Frannie.

"I ran into your roommate, Sis," he called as he entered the room. "I hope you're decent."

"Of course I am," Frannie replied as she came out of the bathroom. "You have to be Jennifer. I'm so pleased to finally meet you."

"Jenny," the woman who had captured his imagination corrected.

"Toss me your keys, Jenny, and I'll bring up the rest of your stuff," Brandon offered.

"Oh, I couldn't ask you to do that."

"You didn't ask. If I'm not mistaken, you had a long drive to get here. You have to be tired. It's the least I can do for a fellow student. How much stuff do you have in your car?"

"I have most everything in this box. There's only a laptop and a really big suitcase."

"Good then I'll save you a couple of trips."

He smiled as Jenny reached into the pocket of her cut offs and pulled out a set of keys. The fact she took him up on his offer was a good sign he might have a chance at a date with her sometime in the near future.
