Prologue

"What is the cost of your silence?"

The General stood, hands clasped behind his back, only his eyes betraying the fear that gripped his heart. The young man before him held everything that mattered; his home, his reputation, his very heart.

Dark eyes flashed briefly in anger, but that anger quickly faded. "I want what I offer. Protection."

"You offer me protection."

"Yes, sir. Tonight, you will be expected to hand her over willingly, for the entertainment of another."

In the moonlight of the garden, Arad Soheil's long hair cascaded freely down his back, an inky spill against his official whites. The heavy fragrance of gardenias wafted through the damp air.

"Tonight, I will be expected to get on my knees before my superior. Or bend over. I no longer wish to demean myself in such a way."

Commander Willings was legendary for his lust, particularly for a handsome young male. This young male. No cleric had ever had the power or the influence to call Willings to punishment for his licentious behavior.

Arad stood a full hand's span taller than most Nephris, with a powerful, graceful bearing. His face was singularly beautiful, eyes so blue as to be almost ebon. His beard and mustache only enhanced sensual lips that were uncommonly ready to smile. He was almost foreign in his beauty. The General could full well understand Willings' lust, as his own cock tightened involuntarily in Arad's presence.

"What do you propose?"

"You don't wish to share your female. I don't wish to share my body yet again. I propose that you reward me with her this evening. I will see to her safety, you will see to mine."

"And in the long run?" He knew full well that Arad had him in a dangerous spot. If word were to get out... his shame knew no bounds, but the General was powerless before the flaw in his character.

"I am an excellent officer, and one of the foremost scientists on Nephris. It wouldn't be unusual for a man of my standing to receive a command assignment."

"A ship?"

Arad nodded. "I grow tired of being a whore for lesser men. For such a boon, I will protect your secret."

The General paced, his boots making little sound on the grass. Inside his home, the genteel party was growing dark in tone. Soon, they would expect entertainment. He'd hired whores for the night; bent, broken women and pretty-faced bend-over boys.

But he would be a poor host for not putting his own lovely female out as well.

Arad looked calm and collected, but tension rode his body. The General wasn't certain if Arad knew, but Commander Willings had just this night requested that the young science officer be transferred to his command. The assignment would go hard on young Arad.

"I don't wish to share my female with anyone, Arad. You included. You must guarantee..."

Arad laughed, a sad, bitter sound. "You may have no fear of that, sir. I am not capable..."

The General turned and looked at him in disbelief. "You don't favor females?" While homosexual activity was common, it was only for entertainment, and only the higher classes could indulge without suffering the wrath of the government controlled church.

"No, that isn't it, sir."

Even in the darkness, he could see the young man's color had gone dark. "As a boy, I was caught abusing myself. The punishment was severe."

It always was; the mandated punishment for masturbation was caning to the offending body part.

"I was injured. I'm not able to..."

"I understand. And I'm sorry."

Arad bowed his head with dignity. "Intercourse is not possible for me, and females hold no other charm."

"I've heard otherwise." The General had his own information network in place. "I heard you encountered a certain Earth Recovery Detective. You were heard to comment on her beauty."

"I can appreciate the beauty of a flower without having to pluck it, sir."

"But the Little Dragon is so much more than a pretty flower, isn't she, Arad?" Arad was silent, not letting the conversation be diverted. The General suddenly recalled he was in a highly vulnerable position. "All right. You stay in my rooms with my female this night. You keep my secret. I will look to your future."

Arad bowed deeply. "I will see to the safety of your female this night. I will never tell another Nephris that the General has shamed us all by falling in love with his woman."
