Sunlight streamed in the window, dappling the living room wall. Kyla McLean grabbed the TV remote and curled up on the couch. It felt odd to be relaxing like this so early in the afternoon. She smiled, enjoying the moment. This was the first day off she had had in ages. Of course, when you run your own business--and the dress shop was doing well--that was not unusual.
Dudley would be telephoning soon. A pilot with a major airline, he spent much of his time in far-off places. Weeks went by when they seldom saw each other. Kyla glanced over at the wedding photo on the dresser. Difficult to believe it had been taken over fifteen years ago. Still, apart from the usual difficulties theirs had been a happy marriage.
The years had been kind to them too. Dudley remained as darkly handsome as ever, while she contrasted nicely, with her hair of flame and hazel green eyes.
