"You weren't showing off or looking for attention. You were there for me. And now, you're here again just because we're long-distance friends. You've proven to be my Lochinvar for reasons other than what you may have thought."
Jason lowered his head. The praise felt uncomfortable and undeserved. "I think everyone you've touched feels the way I do about you, Erin. You just bring out the best in people. I don't think I'm so special, but I'm glad you're glad I'm here."
Erin moved toward Jason and kissed his cheek tenderly. "Yes. I'm glad."
"I'll call my office tomorrow and arrange for a few extra days if you would like...if it'll help."
"Yes, again. It would help."
Jason drained the rest of his nightcap.
"Would you like another?'
"I don't want you doing another thing for me tonight."
"I don't mind waiting on you. It's not every evening I get to spend with Dean Martin's twin. You were a big hit at the reception, buddy. You attracted most of the single women in the room and at least half the wives."
"It must've been my madras pants. Next you'll accuse me of attracting the males as well."
Erin laughed teasingly. "Probably them, too. I'm sure the ladies of New York are even less shy. There's probably someone who can't wait for you to get back."
"Erin, sweetheart. If I'd done half the things I've been given credit for, my balls would be bronzed and hanging in a Love Hall of Fame somewhere...really. I'm not the hard-living playboy you seem to think I am."
"People are a lot like prisms. What you see of them depends on how you turn the glass, I suppose."
