"You hoooo!" Miss Fleming warbled up the stairs. "Only me!"
"Oh...yes, right, I'm just in the bathroom...won't be a minute," Alex called down.
Kelly wiggled her eyebrows desperately. "Won't be a minute?" she hissed. "There are no towels in here. You can't get out while she's here."
Alex scanned the room. "Damn."
They fell silent and listened to the sounds from the kitchen. She was making a cup of coffee. That boded ill. Clearly, it wasn't a fleeting visit.
"I'll make a dash for it," Alex decided.
"She will see you."
It was true. The landing had an open banister, like a gallery to the main living room below. "Damn again, damn architects."
The pair fell into a pensive silence. Downstairs, Miss Victoria Fleming was settling onto the sofa with a hot drink. It was approaching evening. Was she in for the night? Kelly sighed.
"It's our bloody house," Alex hissed suddenly. "I can damn well prance around naked if I want to. I should just stride out there, wave hello, and...hah, go right down and join her on the sofa!"
"Naked?"
"As the day I was born."
"I'd like to see that. I'd like to see her reaction."
"I may even seduce her."
