Seeking Sir Gwain
by Shari Dare

Category: Romance/Fantasy
Description: When Gwain rode away from Fletcher Manor, Keith knew he'd lost more than the nephew he'd fostered since he'd been a child. He'd lost the only man he'd ever called son as well as his best friend. Keith's decision to find Gwain led him to the 21st century, only to be followed by the cousin of Gwain's son, William, who offered to find William's father. Although Ian time traveled many years after Keith, they have arrived in the 21st century weeks within each other. Emily and Julie are both alone and living together. Although Emily is interested in a sexual relationship, Julie just wants male companionship. It seems that Ian and Keith are the answer to each of their prayers. When the two men's quest becomes evident, will the women be able to help them find Gwain without losing the men who have become special to them?

"I've had it! I've just had it!" Emily Cranston said as she threw the new erotic romance she'd just bought across the room.

"Had it with what?" Julie Langdon, her friend and roommate asked.

"Sex, that's what. If you believe what you read in these books, everyone's getting 'laid' but me."

"At our age we can't expect miracles. I mean I was never completely comfortable when Jack made love to me. I'm just as well shed of him. If you ask me, he's not the big time lover he makes himself out to be. Since we divorced, he's been through three more wives. It has to tell you something. Sex with him wasn't making love; it was being fucked, pure and simple. Once he got his jollies, to hell with me."

Emily sighed. She'd heard all about how Jack saw making love as a chore. If anyone was asexual, it was Jack. She should know all about him. She and Julie had shared the same house ever since the death of Emily's husband, Larry, five years ago. At the time she was struggling to make ends meet and Julie had decided to sell her house and get out.

"Not everyone is getting laid, you know," Julie continued. "Most of our friends are happy with their grandchildren and their knitting."

"Well, I'm not. Even Maude Preston is dating and she's very verbal about her sexual experiences. Trust me, if I could get half the action that old heifer is getting, I'd be happy."

Julie laughed at Emily's statement. "What about Bill Watson?"

"What about him?"

"He seems to keep you busy and he talks a good show when it comes to sex."

"That's all there is, a lot of talk. When it's time for action we either have to wait for the Viagra to work, if it works at all, or revert to using the pump. That's about as exciting as watching grass grow. Of course, that's only the foreplay. He can't do it in a normal position. His acid reflux is so bad I have to put my legs over his shoulders and that kills any sensation for me. The only thing I can think about is the arthritis pain in my legs. Talk about being fucked. That's just what it's like. I haven't had a decent orgasm since Larry died."

Julie was laughing so hard she could hardly talk. "So, what do you plan to do about it?" she finally asked.

"I picked up one of those free papers in the grocery store and read the personal ads. Some of those guys sound pretty damn good."

Across the room Julie rolled her eyes. "You can't be serious."

"Oh yes I can. I've got a couple of them marked. There's one for you and one for me."

"Leave me out of this. I don't want to be part of your fantasy."

"No way. They always say there's safety in numbers. Besides, this guy is perfect for you. Listen to this. Older white gentleman looking for an older woman for dinner, dancing, movies, plays and companionship."

Julie smiled, apparently intrigued by the image the ad provoked. "He does sound promising. Who did you find for yourself?"

"This guy stood out from all the others. Single white male looking for a meaningful relationship including sex with a mature woman. The ad says he's in his thirties."

"Good God, he's younger than your kids. I hope you know what you're getting into."

"Me, too. I'm planning to answer both these ads through the e-mail address. I can set up blind dates for both of us and take it from there. Who knows, we could both get lucky."

Emily knew Julie was appalled by the fact she was planning to actually answer the ad and set up the date, but it didn't matter. Since they'd agreed to share expenses they'd shared everything else in their lives. "If worse comes to worst, we can walk out together. Besides, neither of these guys will know how to find us since the way I planned it, we'll be meeting them at the restaurant. If we don't feel comfortable with either of them, we can go to the ladies room and get out of there."

"It sounds like you've got all the bases covered, but this blind date thing has me spooked. I realize we can leave and they can't find us, but how do we know they aren't axe murders or serial killers. You know what they say about them. You never suspect until it's too late."

"You watch way too much Tru TV. Not everyone who puts an ad in the lonely heart's column is a cold-blooded killer out looking for his next victim. If nothing else, we'll have a good time and a free meal at a great restaurant. If I get this sent out right away, I should get confirmation through my e-mail this afternoon. I suggested going to the Stagecoach. If they go along with it, we have some major shopping to do. With luck they'll want to meet us for dinner tonight."
