Her vein throbbed, and I drank in her warmth and softness against my body. I pressed my mouth to her throat, savouring the moment. Her demeanor was perfectly compliant to my needs, and the rush of her blood called to me. As my fangs sank into her flesh, she gave a small murmur of surprise. Her heartbeat quickened, and the blood flowed easily into my waiting mouth. As the liquid slid down my throat to my stomach, to be absorbed into the rest of my body, I swooned with a satisfaction beyond reason. Soon I felt her legs begin to buckle, and I withdrew my mouth, easing her gently to the ground.

Eli was already finished and waiting back at the car. He leant with lazy nonchalance against the hood, and I smiled at how wonderful he looked under the moonlight. His long legs were stretched out before him, and his cobalt blue eyes pierced the unforgiving darkness. A twinge of unexpected sadness gripped me, as I realised all traces of the little boy I had loved as my own were gone.
