Jozef Imrich
Alert me when new Jozef Imrich titles are added

Bio: My name is Jozef Imrich and I welcome one and all storytellers to probably some of the hungriest stories in the world ... hunger for freedom, hunger for life, and all kinds of hunger for firsthand experience. I learned that it was okay not to hunger like everyone else. Somewhat one has to experience real thirst and hunger for different things before even thinking of writing with passion. Fuelled by promise of freedom, passion rules over escapees, and we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest or darkest moments. The joy of freedom, the clarity of homelessness, and the ecstacy of jakarandas. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. Passion has made it possible for me to question the value of dreams and nightmares. You are about to embark upon a unique experience. As far as I know, there is no other escape across the Iron Curtain like this anywhere. At the heart of the story is something literally akin to the mysterious coincidences—beyond analysis— where hunger for freedom and the fear of 'No Exit' signs grind together. I grew up loving the world of simple Slavic imagination. As a child, stories had the ability to take me places I never dreamed I would explore in my reality. As an adult, I had no idea that I could be in this much pain and not die. If there is an element of truth in the saying that blood talks louder than words, my small Bohemian-Antipodean accent lives in hope that the lessons learned from the Iron Curtain experience will not be forgotten. Like many other exiles, I came through seven gates of hell to eventually witness the fall of the Iron Curtain. I thought, 'There falls the Curtain that ruined my life.' There is not a lot more to say, except 'Thank You For Reading.'

1 Cold River: A Survivor's Story
by Jozef Imrich
Cold River: A Survivor's Story is about a man's desire for freedom at a time when none existed. Jozef describes the village in which he grew up with such emotion and sadness that the reader can hear the snow crunching beneath his expectant mother's feet as she makes her way through the snow drifts. This story is fact, not fiction, when you are finished you will know what it is like to taste freedom for the first time. And perhaps feel pain of its cost. (Published: 2002)
