Bio: Born in New York City in 1926, Evan Hunter attended Hunter College and served in the U.S. Navy before becoming a full-time writer in the early 1950s. As Hunter, he wrote the seminal troubled-youth novel The Blackboard Jungle in 1954, and wrote the screenplay to Hitchcock's The Birds in 1963. As Ed McBain, he revolutionized the police procedural form with the celebrated 87th Precinct novels.
